I would be further along with the evaluation of tone if I played better but that is as it is and will improve. Would also be better informed had I not ordered G string by mistake when I wanted a C string. Never the less  the G string now on the instrument is a short scale viola G string and it sounds different from the violin G string even with both being D'Addario Prelude strings. C strings are ordered and ultimately I will have to change the A and D strings to short scale viola strings. Now to work on some tunes that haunt the low notes.

Hello folks; Attended my 1st Slow Jam last night and met 10 friendly people, 6 fiddlers, 1 keyboardist, banjo, guitar, whistle, squeeze box, percussion. Each of us took turns calling the tune and setting the tempo, including me and they accepted 'Jock O'Hazeldean into their tune book. A great time, however I discovered a hairline crack in the top of my acoustic fiddle that was pretty much in line with right foot of the larger viola bridge I had installed. I surmise the 1/4" higher and wider bridge put greater pressure onthe top. So crack has been glued shut ("Old Brown" hide glue) and violin bridge reinstalled. Will have to seriously consider a purpose built 14" viola. Fortunately one gentleman at the Jam was playing a self built fiddle and is planning matched violin and viola as his next project so I might ask for a way to tag along on his next project.
