I just made this audio. As the topic title says, this was played on my viola with my Fiddlerman Pro Series Violin, that I absolutely love. I also have my new Oblogato strings installed.

I hope you enjoy this

Hello @Mouse

Well done! Your intonation and rhythm are spot on, and you sound confident. Bet you're enjoying playing this.

I'm wondering a bit about using a violin bow on a viola tough: doesn't it make it more difficult to "grip" the strings, because of the lighter weight? did you notice any difference? Just asking out of curiority.

I've done the reverse often - viola bow on the violin. Sometimes it does feel like too much weight, but the bow is so much better than my violin bow… so in the end I think it's better. I should probably just get a better violin bow at some point (and a better violin) - but not a priority.

Thank you, @wtw. For some reason, I was confident. When I use the violin bow on a violin, I am not that confident. Odd.

I was curious, too. So, I asked Violaman/Fiddlerman. He said it is fine. The hairs might wear out a little more quickly, but will not harm the bow, itself.

I actually had to use the viola bow on the violin when I started because the violin bow was so long and hard for me to bet any sense of how to do it. I guess I have done a complete turn around. I even started with a cello bow on my viola!

I was using it the past couple of days, and I don't think it was a fluke,,which is what I thought; "Maybe just a good day." I just think it was my best piece as far as bowing, intonation, dynamics, etc, and I am very hard on myself.

It really has given me a boost. I will continue using the violin bow, but might try the less expensive Performance series and see if it works just as well. If so, I will use that one instead. I really love the feel and balance of those two bows. First time I ever really noticed the balance part.  ow I know what people are talking about when that is mentioned.

Thank you for listening and commenting, it is very helpful and encouraging for me.

I did try the Performance Series violin bow on my viola. Although very similar as the Pro Series violin bow when used on a violin, it is quite different from the Pro Series when played on my viola. It is not as strong, and does not produce that lovely sound the Pro Series Violin bow produced on my viola.

If I remember, the Pro Series violin bow weighs just a little more than the Performance Series Violin Bow. I was not as ease playing this Performance Series violin bow on the viola. I don't know if it was because I was trying to notice any differences and thinking about it, or because it was different. I just did it when I used the Pro Series,  o thinking about it, just experimenting.

It makes sense though, the Performance violin bow is lighter, by just a tad - but I notice it - which is why I think it is suited for pieces that require a little more lighter sound on my violin. Like I said, I love them both, for what they are designed for, a VIOLIN. But I think the weight of the Pro Series violin bow plays a part. I think the little extra weight of the Pro, makes it suitable on my viola.

Again, I am talking a violin bow on a viola, not the Pro and Performance series Viola bows.
