Now that I've got the mojo to practice more often, I find myself at home after work when my daughter needs her sleep. She now works the night shift in a high-stress profession. Now as my collection of shoulder and chin rests, I have a growing collection. Most of the Viola mutes I have purchased seem almost to be 2/4 violin mutes. They barely grip the top of the bridge and frequently fall off. And this happens with the $3.00 and the $30.00 mutes. I have a 15.5 and looking for suggestions. Do you have one that will actually stay on and function as it should? Maybe I need to buy another bow and play rosin free.....
@Ripton Ah. I made a reminder on my phone to see what I have for viola mutes. I have a 15.5 viola. I pretty sure I have some. I haven't had to use them in a while. I will get back to you tomorrow.

@Ripton, Here is a photo of two of my viola mutes. I used to have a couple more, but I haven't used them in ages and have no idea what happened to them.
The leather one, I have not used. I purchased it at the violin shop I used to go to. They have new owners now, the original owners retired last year. I don't know if they still carry it. I don't remember bow much it was, but I did not pay full price. I bought a violin that day. I did use the violin version, but just the normal way, on my bridge. It stayed there nicely. As I recall, it does not mute as much as the rubber mute, ut the tone did not change as much as the rubber one does, The rubber one really mutes, but the tone is lower, but accurate. I just changes the sound of your violin. You know when you are having a bad intonation day, but, it is mellower. It is a flexible rubbery feel, not a stiff plastic one.

@Ripton I forgot to mention, the paper instructions go to the little leather mute. You probably knew that, but thought I would mention it because the rubber one was so close.
