I seem to get into a pattern of bouncing the bow as I switch strings. What am I doing wrong and how can I stop doing this when I don;t want it to happen…

Maybe someone else will come up with a better answer.
Try thinking about your right hand tracing out figure eights in the air as you are bowing (i.e. curves 8, not straight lines 7, as your bowing is changing direction).

Switching strings at the frog or the tip? If it happens at the tip you may just be experiencing too much arm tension and if it happens at the frog you may want to try using the edge of the bow hair as you change. Gives a sort of shock absorber. Also, use the minimum angle possible. Practice just going back and forth at that part of the bow between strings to gain the right technique.
