As an absolute beginner, myself, I'm still working on learning the absolute basics of the viola. That doesn't stop me from wanting to play something recognizable (sometimes only barely so) for pleasure.

So, when I'm not mangling scales and etudes, I turn to mangling the free viola sheet music uploaded here at Violaman.com.[Image Can Not Be Found]

Right now, my focus has been on the Christmas Project and "O Little Town of Bethlehem."

What are you working on right now?

I have some viola's heading my way this coming week and plan on working on basics as well. I'm excited about testing these instruments and have no experience with the viola other than I work with violists constantly. It should be really interesting so see how much I can do right off the bat as a beginner violist.[Image Can Not Be Found]

What size(s) are you getting?

A 14" should feel familiar with the exception of the string tunings.

Larger sizes will be where your initial challenges lay.[Image Can Not Be Found]

That's quite a bit, Manny! [Image Can Not Be Found]

Me, I'm still an absolute beginner -  trying to make decent sounds come out of the viola - so it's mostly scales and a few very simple tunes for a while.  [Image Can Not Be Found]

thank you very much, i'll try to find some videos of the orchestra to post them here, and by the way i am not that good it is just that as i am playing with the orchestra is easier to follow them, but I'll try to show you some solos that I have played.

And head cheese, don't worry about it, the important thing here is that you are doing it, and it is something that not every one does, that makes the diference.

All the cool music is always wrote for the violin, so there's not to much for viola I think. I try to figure stuff by ear when I want to play fun stuff.

don't say that, think about it like a challenge you can play all the violin stuff in the viola if you want, you just have to transpose it to alto clef and also there are some very cool music for violadance

right now I don't have a viola either, so I'm taking the time to get familiar with the violin--at least get used to the feel of that type of instrument. I do have some Christmas carols that I'm trying (!) to get right so I could possibly record a CD of them for friends and family next year.violin_girl

That is a great idea Michele. And maybe we will have a great Christmas project with both Violaman and Fiddlerman.com again next year to add to that CD.

The newest songs I am playing include Desert Sands, Rustic Dance, and Quizotic Sketch. I am also practicing for my solo ensemble. The music I'm going playing for that is Minuet #1 by Johann Sebastian Bach.
