I must be missing something. The fiddle and, recently, the viola have been my only experience in the world of music. The whole duration of this experience has only been about 10 months. I can laboriously read music and I can read tabs OK.
The problem seems to be that I have noticed that if I can play a piece on the fiddle, I can also play it on the viola. I must be doing something wrong. It can't possibly be that easy.
Where am I going wrong?

I am finding a similar thing. If I workout the fingerings for the violin or the viola they are pretty much transferable. Now it might be that I have restrung my acoustic and electric to acommodate a C string after removing the E string and moving the other strings up one position. To get the C string to work I ordered a short (14") viola string and installed it. Because I made an ordering mistake I also have a short viola G string and since my D and A violin strings are also D'addario Prelude strings and the short Viola strings are D'Addario, Preludes they make a good set. Treble clef and Alto clef are only one tone different so if the notes fit within the ranges of either instrument the playing should be similar. So far as I understand the actual notes are the same and just appear at different places on the staff. I Think

Actually, sometimes, if your mindset is correct and your basic skills are in place, it really CAN be just that easy. Don't knock yourself. Just enjoy the ride.
