While I hate to steal topics from other forums I find that we need a little action over here.
Everyone seems to be talking about their Violin playing goals and while 1 person did mention their Viola goals I figured we could use a goals topic here on Violaman as well.
So, My 2013 Goals:
1. Acquire my own Viola (Will be placing the order tomorrow so it should be in by Mon.)
2. Get the songs that I know, or rather Knew since I haven't touched a viola in almost a year, down pat to the point that I can play them smoothly and confidently
3. Learn at least arm vibrato
4. Learn at least 2nd if not 3rd and 4th positions
5. Learn to read sheet music and more specifically the nuances typically found oon your everyday sheet music.
And after completing at least 4 of these I will reward myself with a double shot of a good Single Malt Scotch...who am I kidding I'll be doing that the day my Viola arrives!

My goal is to get my music-reading ability up to par. I'm not talking sight-reading Paganini... more like a pick-it-up-an--start working-on-playing-level. As it is, I typically have to spend a chunk of time writing in the notes/fingerings before I can even begin.
Vibrato would be nice, too, but I have few illusions of my current learning curve.

@Barry Nelson I thought it was you who posted it but I had already closed the other window so I didn't want to say "Barry started the goals stuff over there..." and wind up having the wrong name
@HC as far as the fingering, which I have only done in 1st position, I found land marks on the stave for the "open" string positions then determined the fingering from there. The part I have the most trouble with is knowing the flats and sharps based on what key your in and the only way I think I will be able to remember those is if someone is able to explain to me the "Rules" for each key so to speak
