Ok, so I've been playing 17 months or so now and started to get nervous about breaking a string so I ordered a set. Today they came in and I safely tucked them away for some future use. Then I grabbed the viola to practice and snapped the A string when I started to tune it. Was this odd? Were the music gods watching and planning this all along.. So here's my question. I started with Helicore strings and now have a set of Dominants. Should I switch out all 4 or only the broken one?

Thanks for your advice and wisdom.

Helicore strings are steel stranded strings and Dominants are Perlon core strings. I wouldn't mix, rather, change all the strings to Dominant and keep the used Helicore in case of a broken string in the future. If you like the Dominants, get an extra set so you have spares and if a string breaks you can order just the one string that way you always have a new set for later. and never risk being without a string. :-)
