Not so new, but never added my "Bio"
OK, so I'm not exactly a stranger, but still fairly new to the forum.

Started with the strings in grade school but gave up music as the school department was not funded and my family not secure enough to provide lessons. Now in my 50s, I have been blessed in life and now have a wonderful family and secure job. A few years ago, my daughter picked up the Violin/Cello and my wife started on the Violin so I naturally grabbed the Viola. With big hands and an appreciation for the deeper tones, I love this fiddle. With a love of the music and a real desire to spark up the life around the campfire at our mountain cabin I started self teaching for my first few years, but started formal lessons March of 2013. I love what my wife calls Mountain Music. Although I seem to be a slow learner, and the years have not been kind to my hearing, I really enjoy the opportunity to pick up a new piece and put it all together. My music is a combination of Suzuki/ Celtic/Bluegrass/Folk and Christian and some other pieces I'm really not quite sure of.

I work as an RN in a Medical ICU at a University Medical Center. I work long shifts but that pays off with long stretches of time off for family and fun. We enjoy our retreat in Vermont and visit as frequently as possible. There's always a new valley or field to play the viola in. I find that not all open venues offer the same acoustics. I like the smaller fields and river valleys the most.

That sounds great (playing a viola in the wide outdoors).

Not sure how I'd do trekking down the hill on snowshoes, carrying a camera and the viola, but as soon as I can I'll get a recording of me playing "down at the river" at the river...

Glad to read more about you Ripton. Sounds like you are living the life.
I have always had a special admiration for people who can do the work that you guys do. Caring for others requires a great heart and a lot of dedication.
